The Beauty Behind Rumah Bedelau Batik’s Ecoprint: Empowering Art from the Heart

Welcome to the world of Rumah Bedelau Batik! We’re proud to share a video that will take you on a journey into the process behind each unique and meaningful piece of our ecoprint fabric. Located at Jalan Kijang Lama, Gg. Anjasmara IV No. 15, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands, this is where our small workshop hums with activity, witnessing the birth of extraordinary creations.

Ecoprint: A Natural Touch in Every Fiber

In the video we’ve shared, you can see firsthand how our ecoprint process unfolds. Ecoprint is an eco-friendly dyeing technique that uses natural pigments from leaves, flowers, or other plant parts to create motifs on fabric. It’s a process that requires patience, precision, and, of course, an artistic touch:

Fabric Preparation: The fabric is thoroughly washed and then mordanted (soaked in a mordant solution) to help the natural pigments absorb perfectly, resulting in sharper and longer-lasting colors.
Arrangement of Leaves and Flowers: This is where creativity begins! Selected leaves and flowers, such as teak leaves, eucalyptus, or marigold flowers, are meticulously arranged one by one on the fabric surface. This arrangement determines the pattern and unique design that will be imprinted.
Rolling and Steaming: The fabric, now adorned with natural materials, is then tightly rolled onto a pole or pipe and securely tied. This roll is subsequently steamed for several hours. The steaming process is key, as the heat and steam will ‘extract’ the color pigments from the plants into the fabric fibers.
Unrolling and Drying: After the steaming process is complete, the roll is carefully unfurled, revealing the magical, naturally imprinted motifs. The fabric is then washed and dried, ready to become a stunning ecoprint masterpiece.
